Company Background

Smith Two Way Radio founded in 1929 has been the premier communication provider for over 90 years. Starting on the square in Fayetteville Arkansas, Laymon Smith sold and serviced AM radios. It was in 1948 Smith Two Way Radio, began specializing in Two Way Radio communications becoming a Motorola Dealer and installing the first radio systems for the Yellow Cab Company, Checker Cab in Fayetteville, AR.

In 1954 Smith Two Way Radio, INC moved to its current location after Laymon Smith’s son Paul Smith returned home from serving in the Army.

 

In 1988 Michael Smith took the reins of the company after the death of his father Paul Smith. Smith Two Way Radio has grown from the original electronics store to what it is today, serving customers across 7 states.

Smith Two Way Radio has focused on being a total solution provider catering to solve the unique problems of an ever-developing technology. Smith Two Way Radio picked up EF Johnson in the mid 80’s and Midland Dealership in the late 90’s. In 1993 Smith Two Way Radio picked up Kenwoods communication line and ran with it. Choosing to focus on growing with Kenwood, they have made the decision to make Kenwood the first choice for their customers. Expanding their portfolio to include Mindshare Consoles, Raven Flexgate they can provide a rounded solution for their customers. Smith Two Way Radio continues to push the bar higher and higher. Starting a fleet of trunking radio SOWs and deploying them across the nation with a rental radio fleet growing about 1200 radios. Specializing in microwave backhaul design and implementation. Working with public safety Smith Two Way Radio has been able to expand the Kenwood Viking Series on the Arkansas State P25 System AWINS. Being able to show them the durability, sound quality and the benefit to the budget has been a huge selling point to the Kenwood line versus the competition. Recently Smith Two Way Radio has started to educate customers through social media platforms. Starting a YouTube channel, they have created the Sparky and Mr. Z show. This show aims to educate and entertain the customers about the features and highlights of individual radios and programs offered.

Over 91 years Smith Two Way Radio has grown to 2 locations, 18 employees, and servicing customers across the country while maintaining the feel of the local family shop. We are looking forward to the next 90 years of providing quality communication solutions.
